Morning in Pisa: Coffee with a View

We began our day in Pisa, and what better way to start than with coffee and a croissant at a hidden gem of a café, boasting one of the best views in the world—the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Tucked away in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, this café is a little-known spot with an unbeatable panorama of the Piazza dei Miracoli.

With the Leaning Tower, the grand Cathedral, and the largest Baptistery in the world all in view, it's a surreal experience to sip your coffee amidst such historic beauty. The entire area, including the grass and surrounding buildings, is immaculately preserved, making it feel as though you've stepped back in time.

Exploring the Historic Streets of Pisa

Pisa is more than just the Leaning Tower. The charming streets of Pisa offer a quieter, more intimate Tuscan experience. While the Piazza dei Miracoli is the town's highlight, wandering the surrounding streets reveals a delightful, less touristy side of Pisa.

Our food highlight in Pisa was an absolutely huge sandwich filled with Mortadella, truffle paste, and pecorino, all for just €7.50 (~$8.25 USD). The quality of the ingredients was top-notch, making this a must-try for any foodie.

After lunch, we explored more of Pisa, crossing the Arno River and marvelling at the tiny, opulent church of Santa Maria della Spina. Its Gothic architecture and historical significance make it a fascinating stop, especially knowing that Galileo Galilei once roamed these same streets.

Vintage Shopping in Pisa

No trip is complete without a bit of shopping! We stopped at VAB Vintage, one of the best thrift shops in Pisa, where we found some fantastic pieces. Whether you’re a fan of vintage fashion or just love discovering unique finds, this is a must-visit.

Afternoon in Lucca: Medieval Charm and Music Festivals

A short drive from Pisa brought us to the charming city of Lucca. Famous for its well-preserved medieval walls, Lucca offers a serene contrast to the busier streets of Pisa. We strolled along the 4 km promenade atop the walls, which now serves as a park with trees and pathways.

During our visit, the Lucca Summer Festival was in full swing, with concerts by big names like Lenny Kravitz, Ed Sheeran, and Sam Smith. The town was alive with music, adding to the already vibrant atmosphere.

Dinner in Lucca: A Hidden Gem

As evening fell, we found ourselves in Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, a stunning square surrounded by historic buildings. We stumbled upon a cozy restaurant where we enjoyed a local specialty, testaroli – a unique type of pasta resembling tiny crepes. While it was a bit rich for our taste, it was a fantastic experience to try something new.
