Slow Living in Tuscany | Perfect Day in the Italian Countryside

Slow Living in Tuscany: A Perfect Day in the Italian Countryside

While staying in a remote villa nestled in the Tuscan hills, we enjoyed the tranquillity, stunning views, and simple pleasures that make Tuscany such a special place. From exploring the charming village of Certaldo to savouring a rooftop sunset, this day was all about unwinding and appreciating the slower pace of life that the Tuscan countryside offers.

Morning at the Villa

We started our day at the villa, surrounded by nothing but the sounds of birds and the gentle rustle of leaves. This was by far the nicest place we've ever stayed in – a sprawling estate with no traffic noise, just pure serenity. The villa is made up of two connected apartments, featuring four bedrooms, two spacious bathrooms, and a cozy kitchen. But the real highlight is the rooftop terrace, offering a breathtaking 360-degree view of the rolling Tuscan hills.

After a leisurely breakfast, we took a stroll through the villa's olive tree grove, accompanied by the villa's two friendly dogs. It's such a treat to wake up in such a peaceful environment, far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. For the first time, we truly understood the meaning of "la dolce vita."

Exploring Certaldo

For lunch, we headed to Certaldo, a nearby village known for its medieval charm and picturesque streets. Certaldo is divided into two parts – the lower town and the medieval upper town, Certaldo Alto. After a short, scenic walk uphill, we arrived at the upper town, where a lively medieval festival was taking place. The streets were lined with long tables, and the air was filled with the sounds of laughter and celebration.

One quirky fact about Certaldo is its love for onions! The village is famous for a particular type of onion, and you can even find unusual dishes like caramelized onion ice cream. While it might sound strange, it’s definitely worth a try if you’re feeling adventurous.

Lunch with a View

We found a lovely spot for lunch, known for offering the best views in Certaldo. Sitting down for a vegan brunch basket, we took in the panoramic vistas of the Tuscan countryside. It was the perfect break from our usual meals and gave us a chance to relax and soak in the surroundings. Afterward, we grabbed a coffee from a nearby café and continued exploring the village.

Rooftop Sunset at the Villa

As the day drew to a close, we returned to our villa to enjoy one of the main highlights of our stay – a rooftop sunset. The clear skies promised a spectacular display, and the sunset didn’t disappoint. Sipping on cocktails, we watched the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. The gentle breeze and peaceful ambiance made it the perfect way to end the day.

Final Thoughts

As the night fell and the air grew cooler, we headed inside, feeling utterly content. Our time in Tuscany has been nothing short of magical, and this day of slow living was the perfect reminder of why we love this region so much. If you’re planning a trip to Tuscany, we highly recommend spending some time in the countryside, where you can truly unwind and experience the Italian way of life.
